Milla Walker joined Luqmani Thompson & Partners as a trainee solicitor in 2005 and qualified as a solicitor in 2007, becoming partner in May 2011. Prior to joining the firm Milla volunteered with Bail for Immigration Detainees (BID) and Freedom from Torture.
Since joining Luqmani Thompson & Partners, Milla has forged a reputation amongst peers and experts for thoroughness of preparation and depth of understanding in Immigration, Trafficking and Public Law.
Alongside her legal aid work, Milla has a busy private client practice, focussing on family and private life applications, with a very strong knowledge and success rate in dealing with Appendix FM and human rights based work, including the notoriously tricky Adult Dependent Relative route as well as family reunion applications.
Milla has extensive experience in High Court work; working on a number of Judicial Reviews relating to challenges around the UK’s obligations to trafficking victims, as well as unlawful detention. In the course of her work Milla has been involved in some definitive cases, including country guidance matters and Court of Appeal cases such as IA (Turkey).
Her work on a country guidance case relating to female victims of trafficking from Nigeria (HD) has had a positive impact on the cases of hundreds of vulnerable asylum seekers and trafficking victims.
Milla is regularly sought out by organisations such as Medaille Trust, the Helen Bamber Foundation and local authorities, as well as receiving regular referrals from other legal representatives in order to take on challenging cases.
Clients comment on Milla’s sympathetic and professional approach to their cases, and she is particularly commended for her work with vulnerable clients such as young people, victims of torture, trafficking and domestic violence.
