Joni joined the firm in August 2021 as a paralegal, after achieving a high Merit in the PGDL and LLM from BPP University in the same month. She intends to qualify as a solicitor in the future. Prior to studying law, she graduated from the University of Bristol with a First Class Honours in BA History in July 2020. During her undergraduate studies, Joni enjoyed gaining experience within the immigration department of a national law firm.
While at BPP University, she enjoyed volunteering within the BPP Legal Advice Clinic as well as the Employment Law Telephone Advice Line. She also volunteered as an Independent Parental Support Volunteer at her local Special Educational Needs and Disability Information and Advice Support Service (SENDIASS), advising parents on the law surrounding how educational settings should support young people with special educational needs. The experience of volunteering in the pro bono clinics and with SENDIASS reaffirmed her wish to work in a legal environment that honoured a commitment to securing justice for individuals and making legal advice more accessible. She has been an active member of Young Legal Aid Lawyers since 2019 and enjoys attending their panel discussions in her spare time.
Since joining Luqmani Thompson & Partners, Joni has particularly enjoyed undertaking work related to challenging the decisions of public bodies.
